[Feature Request] Bulk Notebook Sectionizer

Onenote 2010

Feature Request:

Bulk Notebook Sectionizer

Okay, so the name sounds a little silly, but it is really simple after you break it down into sections

Problem:

I have been using the MobileNoter app, which can sync local notebooks via wifi, however it takes a while to sync large notebooks.

Workaround:

I use Onenote 2010 in order to create a new notebook, which will be smaller, and copy sections of the larger notebook into smaller notebooks.  Judging by your silence, I would say that you are a little confused, heck I am confused and I wrote it.

Step by Step

  1. Open Onenote 2010
  2. File>New>Store Notebook On>Select My Computer
  3. Name it something like Local part 1 (We will create others later that will increment by 1)
  4. Go to your Large Notebook and right click a section
  5. Select Move or Copy
  6. After you select the smaller notebook called Local part 1 from the options, Press Copy
  7. If done correctly, you will now have a local notebook that contains one section from the Large Notebook

As I stated earlier, the syncing takes a while on MobileNoter, so you have to make small notebooks from at least 1 or 2 sections (depending on size of the sections).  This leads me to my next topic, finding a solution.

Proposed Solution

Create a powertoy that automates the workaround stated above.  The powertoy should have a simple interface that allows the user to select a large notebook (kudos if you implement a statusbar with the size of the notebook and sections), as well as the section to be converted, and the name of the notebook it will be converted to.  I think that there could be some great uses for this, such as users who would like to keep separate notebooks for separate clients (with the powertoy, this will ease in sending smaller notebooks and syncing them more efficiently).

Naming Convention

Bulk = Automation

Sectionizer = Converting the notebook sections into smaller notebooks (Think Section Organizer)

Feedback is welcome and appreciated
